Aswan University, in partnership with the Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services, launched the “Egypt Unites Us” initiative to strengthen social unity and reject extremism.

As part of the pioneering role of Egyptian universities in promoting the values of social cohesion, peace, and tolerance, the Faculty of Social Work at Aswan University organized this initiative on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi Hall.
The event was held under the patronage of Prof. Louai Saad El-Din Nasrat, President of Aswan University; Prof. Ashraf Imam Abdel-Rady, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development; and Prof. Mohamed Gaber Abbas Mohamed, Dean of the Faculty of Social Work.

The event was attended by a number of academic staff, representatives of the Coptic Evangelical Organization, and a large audience of students and those interested in social affairs.

The initiative aims to enhance social solidarity within Egyptian society, contribute to the achievement of sustainable development, and reinforce the values of unity, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence among all segments of the community.

The program opened with welcoming remarks by the University President, the Dean of the Faculty of Social Work, and a representative of the Evangelical Organization, who emphasized the importance of the initiative in rejecting violence, intolerance, and discrimination among university students. They also affirmed that Egypt has always been — and continues to be — a unique model of national unity and peaceful coexistence.

The celebration featured a patriotic song titled “Egypt Unites Us”, performed by university students, followed by a series of training workshops and enriching lectures addressing the initiative’s main themes, including:

“The Role of Universities in Disseminating the Values of Social Cohesion and Rejecting Violence,” presented by Prof. Dr. Abdel Moneim El-Gilani, Dean of the Institute of African Research and Nile Basin Studies.

“The Role and Tolerance of Divine Religions in Spreading the Culture of Peace and Rejecting Intolerance and Discrimination,” presented by His Eminence Sheikh Taha Mohamed Ibrahim Jaafar, Imam at the Ministry of Endowments, and Father Abdel-Masih Shukry, Priest of St. George’s Church in Aswan.

Prof. Ahmed Kamel El-Rashidi, former Dean of the Faculty of Education and Advisor to the University President, also delivered a speech titled “The Role of Youth in Promoting a Culture of Dialogue and Tolerance.”
The program additionally included poetry performances by university students, a segment titled “Youth Experiences in Confronting Discrimination and Intolerance,” and a lecture on “The Community’s Role in Rejecting Intolerance and Promoting Social Cohesion,” delivered by Dr. Sohair Ahmed Sayed, Training Consultant at the Egyptian Family Development Foundation.

At the conclusion of the event, several key recommendations were announced, emphasizing the importance of spreading a culture of understanding, acceptance, and mutual respect. The recommendations called for strengthening community awareness and building a conscious, cohesive society capable of confronting challenges and social transformations with confidence and resilience.
The initiative reaffirmed the shared commitment to combating intolerance and stereotypes, and to instilling the values of tolerance, unity, and positive coexistence among all members of society.
